AI Agent Authority and Identity Representation
What happens when an AI agent is authorized to act for a person—but begins saying, promising, or doing things that person never authorized? AI agents are increasingly capable of communicating, making decisions, managing accounts, and interacting with other people on a user's behalf. That raises questions that go beyond whether AI-generated content is accurate: How much authority did the human actually give the agent? Who is responsible when the agent exceeds that authority? Should the person on the other side know that they are dealing with an AI representative rather than the human directly? The issue becomes more complicated when the AI agent also uses the person's identity, voice, likeness, personality, or behavioral patterns—and continues doing so after the person attempts to withdraw consent.
